Erstes Baukulturgespräch Osnabrück 2025

The Osnabrück Building Culture Association is once again organizing the Building Culture Talks this year. This year's focus is on housing. Through lectures and subsequent discussions on conversion culture, affordable housing and regulations, the Baukultur Talks will focus on strategic urban development for housing.

As part of the kick-off event on May 22, 2025 from 6 p.m. in the Felix-Nussbaum-Haus, Matthias Rottmann, architect and partner at De Zwarte Hond, will speak about the importance of a long-term view of housing within urban development. Before Rottmann opened the Cologne office of De Zwarte Hond in 2010, he worked as an architect/urban planner in Rotterdam for several years after completing his studies in Berlin. His expertise lies in large (infrastructure) projects and urban transformation projects.

It is precisely in such processes that the question of quality in newly created living space plays a major role in urban development. How can as many square meters as possible be created as quickly as possible? Taking a long-term view and placing quality at the center of planning processes despite the enormous pressure requires courage - on all scales. A look at the decisions made by attractive cities in past decades enables us to learn from them and to think ahead with obviously successful strategies. The lecture "From City to Apartment - Continuity, Collectivity, Compactness" uses the example of Groningen and other cities to show how these three characteristics ensure high spatial quality at different scales.

The venue is once again the Felix Nussbaum House in Osnabrück. With its contemporary architecture, the Libeskind building has a direct link to the
theme of building culture and provides the ideal setting for the series of events. Tim Rieniets (Leibniz Universität Hannover) will be a guest at the other Building Culture Talks on June 17, 2025 and Harald Schindele and Markus Hirschmüller from Hirschmüller Schindele Architekten in Berlin on September 17, 2025.

Admission to the events is free and registration is not required.
